a Certificate of Participation
and
one Winner and Runner-up
from the Senior and Junior categories win
a trip to London for a week
of educational and cultural events which culminates in
a special Awards Ceremony,
usually held at
Buckingham Palace
that is hosted by the Society’s Vice-Patron, Her Royal
Highness The Duchess of Cornwall.

What is the QCEC?
- Started 139 years ago, it is the world’s oldest international writing competition for schools.
- One of the largest creative writing programme for under18s, inviting entries from all 54 nations of the Commonwealth.

What could you win?
Winners and Runners-up are brought to London for a Winners’ Week: a programme of cultural and educational activities, typically including an Awards Ceremony at Buckingham Palace!
Winners’ Week is different each year but past activities have included:
- Creative writing workshops with well-known authors
- A visit to Cambridge University
- Exploring the sights of London with boat tours of the River Thames
- Activities and evening productions at some of London’s oldest theatres
Every young person who enters receives a
Certificate of Participation Gold, Silver, and Bronze
Certificates are awarded to excellent entries

2022 Theme: Our Commonwealth
This year’s theme is Our Commonwealth. In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will celebrate 70 years as the Head of the Commonwealth. The Queen’s seven decades of service to the Commonwealth are an inspiring example of the steadfast commitment and important contribution we can all make to our societies. Young people are asked to reflect on inspirational leadership and to explore the positive impact that can be achieved through a commitment to their communities.
